UK Nitrides Consortium Winter Conference 2027

The UK Nitrides Consortium Winter Conference will return to Manchester on 6th and 7th January 2027.
UKNC provides a forum for researchers from academia and industry to present and discuss the latest developments in nitride semiconductors and related wide and ultra-wide bandgap materials. The meeting brings together the UK research community alongside invited international speakers and offers an excellent opportunity to share new results, exchange ideas and develop collaborations.
The programme will include invited and contributed presentations covering topics such as:
- growth and characterisation of nitride materials;
- visible and ultraviolet light-emitting devices;
- electronic and power devices;
- photonics and integrated photonic devices;
- new and emerging nitride materials; and
- related wide and ultra-wide bandgap materials, including gallium oxide.
The conference is particularly supportive of students and early-career researchers. PhD students, postdoctoral researchers and other researchers attending their first conference are warmly encouraged to submit an abstract and participate. The meeting typically attracts around 100 delegates from universities and industry in the UK, together with invited speakers and international participants.

Call for abstracts
Abstracts are invited for contributed oral and poster presentations on nitride semiconductors and related wide and ultra-wide bandgap materials.
The final programme themes will reflect the research topics represented in the submitted abstracts. Authors are invited to submit abstracts describing original research related to nitride semiconductors and associated wide and ultra-wide bandgap materials. Abstracts should be 1 page maximum with no figures (pdf files only), and clearly outline the motivation for the work, the methods employed, the principal results obtained, and their significance to the wider research community. Abstracts will be reviewed by the conference committee and selected for oral or poster presentation. Contributions from students and early-career researchers are particularly encouraged.

The conference will take place in the Schuster Building at the University of Manchester. The venue booking, including the lecture theatres and foyer space, has been confirmed for 6–7 January 2027.

Conference Dinner
The conference dinner will take place on the evening of Wednesday 6 January 2027 at the Manchester Museum, located on the University of Manchester campus. Delegates will have exclusive access to the venue for the conference dinner and networking event.
